I have played the first part of this series more times than any other podcast, ever, and I can't imagine I'll be removing it from my ipod this year. Thankfully here is no.2 that I can also memorize. Viva Maximum Compas!

Priceless!
Thank you so much, I love this classic kompa, which I'm finding really difficult to find.

I'm sorry to say something negative but track 5 of Zouk really doesn't belong next to the others, being of a totally different feel and sound and not even slightly Haitian. Very jarring. Once again, Que Viva Les Freres DeJean!!

While not Haitian, the track is a particularly fine example of Haitian influenced Congolese music. Every series there are pieces that do not exactly fit the mold. This is done to draw connections between related musical forms...the purpose of WP. Track 5's relationship with Kompa can be seen during the section of the song that speeds up slightly for solo. A Haitian singer begins singing after the very Haitian solo on the distorted guitar. The compilation that this came from was given to me by a Haitian and he got it in Haiti. Salsa can come from Philippines, Juju can come from London and, yes, Kompa can come from Kinshasa.

You are right about being open to the mixing of styles and influences, but i still don't like that track which IS quite slick and studio-ey juxtaposed with the raw unpolished sound of the others. The others have the feel of live ensembles playing all together simultaneously, and are a pure joy for us listeners!

There are a few negative comments about track five but i find it the best track! In 1980 came on Mini records a record from GMconnection and the second song is an earlier version of track number five. It's called Mambo Sia. The whole Lp is one of my kompa favorites. Really great Haitian music , for sure!!!

Are you sure about the spelling of the third track? Mon compte est bon- I've had enough would be what I would think it said, but you can never be sure.
